@stereo - I claim no expertise, but in my modest experience x265 provides for better compression at the same quality. Other than that no real reason. I used x264 for my releases until fairly recently and wouldn’t mind switching back if more people have problems with my using it. You’re the first to mention it one way or another so I have to think most people, myself included, don’t have a strong opinion.

at high bitrate they’re about the same quality.
try lossless encoding - x264 file will be smaller.
