[YakuboEncodes] Detective Conan - Episode One - The Great Detective Turned Small [BD 1080p][10bit][x265 HEVC][Opus][KienaiSubs].mkv (1.4 GiB)
Both are good codecs. I choose x265 because it compresses better for the same quality. x264, on the other hand, has better compatibility for a large variety of devices, and so is preferred by people at times.
For now it's just better H.264 (x264 does not exist) simply because H.265 is a relatively new codec and thus, not much people has been able to really understand how to get the best results out of it. For now, I'd stick to H.264.
"x264" is an encoder for H.264 (aka MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC), like "divx" and "xvid" are encoders for MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP. Likewise, "x265" is an encoder for H.265 (aka HEVC). Different codecs for the same format can have different results.
I think *for the time being*, 8 bit-per-channel H.264 is the ideal format for practical use, but if someone wants to use 10 bit-per-channel H.265, more power to them.
@racer21 Both H264 and H265 are of the same quality except H265 is smaller in size . However, it is not supported by most of the devices like TVs and PS4. On other hand, H264 is supported by all. but one more warning for encoders, don't ever make 8bit or 10bit. It is not supported in TVs or Ps4 even if it is H264 like H264 10bit.
