Cover Scan
This is a raw rip of both sides of the Neon Genesis Evangelion cassette drama released on December 1st, 1996. The main version of this online is a nicovideo upload from 2008 which suffers from poor audio quality, while this release is a lossless capture directly from the original tape. Due to the nature of the format, it suffers from audio noise throughout both sides. Side B’s general dialog/SFX sounds somewhat worse than Side A, it’s inherent to the tape but dialog is still much cleaner than the previously mentioned 2008 upload. The tape heavily relies on stereo’s two channels, with Shinji’s dialog coming from the left and Asuka’s from the right.

Translations from the back of the case art:
“The dialogue between Shinji and Asuka takes you from waking up to falling asleep. A voice of encouragement speaks softly to your dark and depressed heart, followed by a confession of love. In the midst of all this, what comes to Shinji’s mind?”

I didn’t know this existed. Thank you.

This is such a treasure, I love it.

Less than perfect playback on a cassette? That’s nothing an 80s or 90s Nakamichi can’t fix! Of course, that’s a few thousand dollars easier said than done.

When I see things like this pop up I lament not being in Japan in the 90s and also wonder if I could use an “otaku goods made me do it” excuse when I eventually get busted for whatever white collar crime I was committing to pay for all of it.
