## **Looking for Urotsukidoji (超神伝説うろつき童子) Raws, Remuxes or Good Encodes! High Priority. The older the medium it was sourced from, the better.** ## ### Sources and Links ### [Main Source](https://nyaa.si/view/1259637) | ~~Audio CDs~~ | ~~Subtitles~~ | [AniDB](https://anidb.net/anime/8062) | [MediaInfo](https://pastebin.com/3XXMMz6j) --- ### Quick Info ### **Video**: AV1 | 10bit | CQ29 | CPU3 **Audio**: WavPack Hybrid | High x4 DNS 2.0bps | Stereo **Subtitles**: Advanced SubStation Alpha **Images**: JPEG XL | e 9 d 0 brotli_effort 11 **Episodes Names**: AniDB --- ### Software Used ### **Demuxing**: mkvextract **Chapters**: mkvtoolnix **vspipe**: R58 **Video Encoder**: AOMedia Project AV1 Encoder 3.5.0-575-g32ed2d8ac **Audio Encoder**: WAVPACK Hybrid Lossless Audio Compressor Win64 Version 5.6.0 **Assembling the files with**: mkvmerge **MKVToolNix**: v72.0.0 (‘Minuano (Six-eight)’) 64-bit **Images Encoder**: JPEG XL encoder v0.8.0 6a891d6 --- ### Some Words ### This one was a super smooth ride, as I already had pretty much all the files I used and everything just worked. You guys have no idea of how happy I get when subtitles just work, it is literally the hardest part of an encode for me ._. **Following through with the discussion and suggestions on my previous torrent, from now on I plan to standardize the codecs I use.** Basically, from now on, video will be AV1 and audio will be WVH regardless of the source. Please note that, although WavPack is a lossless codec, it does have a mode where it do lossy, which is called Hybrid. Whenever you see them being mentioned, on my encodes at least, this means the audio track is lossy, not lossless. There is one thing I'm not sure about yet, which is how to deal with AC3. Sometimes an AV1 video track from a DVD is smaller than an untouched AC3, but AC3 is already lossy. What to do with them, transcode or passthrough? AC3 falls into a weird spot where it is too big for a lossy file but too inefficient to be left alone. Ideally I would passthrough them, and I don'd mind sparing more space for audio, but people doesn't seem to like that so that's why I'm asking. --- The Audio CDs here comes from ASL, but I had them downloaded for a very long time, it doesn't seem like I got it from here, so I cant provide a source for them. All the files are still on their folders though. For the "BD DVD 4 Limited Edition Bonus Special CD", I got it from Snow-Raws CDs, as the one I had was V0 MP3, so the audio files there are from Snow-Raws, but the rest (such as the scans and all) are from ASL. Another change I made was renaming the files to add a dot after the track number on the file names, scan and tag their Replay Gain data and make better covers from the scans when possible. Subtitles are from Doki, which I coudn't find anymore so that's why it is not linked. I had these subtitles saved for a long time already. Should I make a discord server for communication? Or join one that already exists? I don't really use discord but I do have an account there. Maybe some IRC room? I'm open to suggestions, I don't have a team so there's no real need for me to communicate a lot, but discussing on comments here is kinda inconvenient. --- My releases are tested and meant to be watched using mpv. It probably works on other players, but that is beyond me. I'm always open to suggestions on what to encode next, principally **loli** and/or **DVD** content! If I can get the raws or remuxes, I can encode. Next planned encode: Mitsudomoe. I might need to mix sources for Zouryouchuu though, as one downloaded the extras while the other only downloaded the main files... Made my own IRC room, I'm not entirely sure how everything work since I only participate in channels, never made one myself, but I hope it can be useful. I will probably AFK a lot, and sometimes I will be offline, but I will try to remember to use it frequently. You can always remind me about it here on the comments as well!

It's a perfect release, and this time I will not reconvert the wavpack to opus, the size of the episodes are perfect! 2.19 GB in total without the Audio CDs.
It was good. Generally, If the source audio is encoded in a lossy codec, then do not re-encode it. Copy it without change. Use WavPack only to encode losslessly encoded audio. If the AC3 audio is too large, then encode to the codec badly named Opus at a bitrate considered transparent. https://wiki.xiph.org/Opus_Recommended_Settings MPV users, know that you can activate de-banding. Damn really? I never gave discord my phone number, and I do change it fairly often (though for unrelated reasons) and it still works, but maybe that's because I made my account a while ago or where I am located? Either way, I won't guarantee anything but I'll look into these, thanks for the comment. About the audio, AC3 passthrough it is then, and only reencode it if it is unreasonably large, got it.
For introduction and resources for AcitivityPub: https://is.gd/tawN4I If the AC3 is more than double high-end transparently encoded Opus, then I think that would be unreasonably large. So, more than double Opus at 128Kbps for stereo. I don't know whether AC3 is always unreasonably large.
I just did a test of compression of lossless WavPack and FLAC. There was practically no difference in file size between the highest compression level of each. FLAC took slightly longer to encode. The real difference was in decode speed with WavPack requiring 3.75× as long to decode. So, I advise using FLAC instead of WavPack. WavPack can also do lossy compression. Ensure that you do not accidentally compress lossy with WavPack compare it with lossless FLAC.

WavPack should take way, way longer to encode than FLAC, WavPack at the maximum settings is extremely taxing (-hh -x6) and it's well beyond the diminishing returns territory, that's why I use -h -x4. It is also more taxing to decode, principally at the absolute maximum setting. FLAC indeed caught up to WavPack after 1.4, now both trade hits where one slightly outperforms the other in a few cases, and FLAC now can even do 32 bit, though only signed while WavPack can do floating point. FLAC also does not have a hybrid/lossy mode, which is why I use WavPack. If I use FLAC then it will be a completely lossless encode and will be way bigger (like on my Welcome to NHK release), while these lossy WavPack are only about 200kbps. For instance, the encode I'm working on right now, the source FLAC audio for the first episode has 245mb, while the lossy WavPack I made out of it has 37.3mb (which is the usual size for a standard length anime episode at the settings I use). And don't worry I do label my test files very well, plus it is really easy to recognize a file made from a lossy version when you have the lossless source right next to it.
I only used -hh , not -x6 in my WavPack test. It defaults to -x1 . -x0 is no extra processing. Is there a reason to use WavPack instead of Opus for a lossy encode?

Because I can't deal with either OPUS, AAC (including from QAAC) or VORBIS at 128kbps, it just doesn't sound good to me, no matter what I do or how I listen to them. The lower floor of WavPack lossy is at around 200kbps for stereo at 48kHz, and although it is not fantastic, it sounds so much better. While I could raise the bitrate of these other mentioned codecs to around 192 or even 200kbps, they still don't beat WavPack, even at higher bitrates than it. The main problems for me are low bitrate artifacts, which WavPack deals with better, and also the crunch on higher frequencies, which sound metallic and screechy on AAC and just empty on OPUS and VORBIS. WavPack even on it's lossy mode can conserve that area way better and doesn't just LPF 1/3rd of the frequencies out (OPUS is notoriously harsh just haphazardly cutting them off). I still would rather have higher bitrates even while using WavPack (I would rather have it lossless actually), in previous encodes I was used to do 2.7bps (which averages at around 260kbps), but I bit the bullet and reduced it to 2.0bps after the discussion on my last torrent. I really don't get it how these codecs and bitrates became the standard while being so bad, it hurts seeing a beautiful lossless track being beat down to nothing and people being totally fine with it, or a very nicely done video with audio so crunchy you can take flakes off it and eat with some sauce.
Opus contains 2 codecs and switches between them. You can manually pick which to apply, if you wish. For example, to use the full spectrum codec based on CELT, you would use `opusenc --music` or `ffmpeg -i File.mka -c:a libopus -b:a 128k -application audio ` with ffmpeg, the other is `-application voip` Maybe you would find one of the codecs better than the other.

Yep I do know about OPUS modes, but even the --music still cut things off, plus it doesn't solve the other main issue which is low bitrate artifacts. Also ffmpeg's OPUS encoders are a bit worse than the reference opusenc, so it is better to use that one if you can, same for VORBIS. I already ran zillions of tests over the years, and I still do from time to time, me settling on WavPack is quite a well researched decision. I am open to trying new codecs that might show up, but for serious things I don't think something will be able to surpass Hybrid WavPack very easily. I have also considered lossyWAV, but I wasn't very happy with it's results either.
The FFMPEG parameter `-c:a libopus` is so that it does not use the FFMPEG Opus encoder.

Again, the rest still applies anyway, but OPUS is still on the realm of possibility for big AC3 files and since I always deal with the tracks separately, there's no reason not to use the reference encoder if it comes down to using OPUS at some moment. Mitsudomoe is averaging at a final file size of around 190mb per episode, even after reducing the video quality and encoding speed a bit it is still going to be larger than this one. I can still reduce the video quality a bit more but that would be getting into uncomfortable levels considering some of the scenes that anime has. I hope that file size is still fine.
I have another suggestion. - something I have been doing with my last encodes and which works well: Scale down the luminance plane to match the resolution of the chrominance plane. Change from YUV420 chroma subsampling to YUV444 (no subsampling). Then for every pixel, there is both a unique chrominance and luminance, rather than a chrominance value being shared by 4 pixels. Dithering is often used in source material, so this merges some of the dithered values into a single also. Let the codec handle the different importance of chroma versus luma. Since there are 1/4 as many pixels, more computation can be done to optimize the video, or encode it faster. It is worth it. Here is how I do that with FFMPEG. I think it is the same with LibAV. ~~~ ffmpeg -pix_fmt yuv444p -filter:v 'scale=iw/2:ih/2' -sws_flags area+full_chroma_inp+full_chroma_int ~~~ Your episodes are in AniDB now. https://anidb.net/anime/8062 Your notes on the sources shall appear as soon as a moderator approves it -- which means possibly never.

Dont people go back to monke when they see yuv444 anywhere? Its always fun to see the comment section of those releases unfortunately. That could be done I guess, though I pretty much dont directly use ffmpeg on my encodes, it is still used as the backbone of some step, or I could find a way to do that via vapoursynth scripts, that would be the preferred way. That probably won't happen on the next encode (Mitsudomoe) since I already have half of it done, but I will investigate it and do some tests. Also note that I have an IRC channel now, it probably is more convenient than the comments here
The reason why their comments are that way is because the way they do it has little or no purpose. Rather than scaling the luma resolution down to match the chroma, they interpolate the chroma up to match the luma. That records information for more chroma pixels than existed in the original.
